Mission Statement:

The Lunar Doula Collective seeks to provide emotional, physical, and informational support free of charge to those undergoing miscarriage, stillbirth, or pregnancy termination in Southeast Michigan. LDC strives to honor the reproductive justice framework by creating a nonjudgmental space in which sexual and reproductive health equity is essential for all human beings regardless of sexual, racial, and gender identities.

Job Description:

LDC is seeking a board member to serve as Treasurer to help this young nonprofit organization further its mission of providing compassionate support to those experiencing pregnancy loss and termination procedures throughout southeast Michigan. In addition to carrying out general responsibilities of a Board Member, the responsibilities of the Treasurer include:

  • Providing the Executive Director and the Board of Directors with an account of the financial condition of LDC on a quarterly basis
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget as well as monitoring the budget
  • Ensuring best practices are employed to support financial integrity and organizational stability, including ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures exist for collection of money, deposits, reconciliation of bank statements
  • Keeping accurate books and records of corporate receipts and disbursements;
  • Completing all required corporate filings
  • Overseeing the annual financial audit of the corporation and other audits of corporate records and finances
  • Performing all duties relevant to the office and other duties assigned by the President

Length of Term:

The Board Treasurer will serve for a two-year term from the effective date

Time Commitment Requirement:

LDCs current status as a newly-formed organization requires a working board committed to helping grow the organization. As such, board members will be asked to commit 10-15 hours monthly to their board duties, including monthly board meetings with an average of 2 hours per meeting, and will be available for calls with the Executive Director for a minimum of 1 hour per month.

Qualifications:

LDC Board Members must demonstrate passion for and commitment to LDCs goals of promoting the Reproductive Justice Framework. Due to LDCs work to support communities throughout southeast Michigan, a candidate with connections to Michigan is ideal. A candidate with experience in business, government, philanthropy, and/or nonprofit organization and development is preferred. The ideal Board Treasurer Candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
  • A commitment to and understanding of LDCs beneficiaries
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping practices, including creating a budget, keeping a general ledger, and making deposits
  • An understanding of and experience with good financial management and reporting practices
    • A professional accounting designation is a plus
  • An appreciation of the kind and level of financial information needed at a board level to support decision making
  • Ethical decision making when it comes to handling monetary funds, obtaining donations, and checking accounting records for errors or fraud
  • A passion for advocating for bodily autonomy and birthing rights of all individuals, with knowledge of social and emotional needs of those experiencing pregnancy loss, including an understanding of and commitment to addressing barriers and health disparities that exist for those seeking reproductive health resources
  • Able to promote LDC programs through developing strong and sustainable partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, raising public and private funds as needed
