About this Opportunity
The Great Divide Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is looking for a motivated volunteer to serve as a campground host at Day Lake Campground. Day Lake is a 40-site campground on a 640-acre lake that is popular with anglers. Day Lake is close to the community of Clam Lake, Dead Horse Run ATV trail, mountain bike trails, many lakes and streams, swim beaches, and within an Elk release area.
General duties of a Campground Host include:
- Assist campers by providing them with information, explaining basic National Forest regulations
- Act as eyes and ears of the Forest Service (USFS) by monitoring use and reporting violations or emergencies to the proper authorities
- Clean and service restrooms, fire pits, campsites and general grounds maintenance
- Paint
- Mow
- Pick up litter
- Work safely while adhering to all USFS safety policies
- Have fun
All supplies will be provided by the Forest Service.
We ask that hosts be available for a two-month commitment at minimum, or as long as a full season if possible. Day Lake Campground is open from May 1 to October 31. Hosts are expected to be available to the public at a minimum of noon every Friday until 6:00 pm Sunday (infrequent knocks on the camper door at all hours of the day and night should be expected, though).
Hosts are to be neat in appearance and to keep a tidy and welcoming camp site. There are no hookups at Day Lake Campground, but there are hand pump wells located in the campground. Hosts should be in good physical condition and be able to work in a variety of weather conditions including rain, high humidity, and varying temperatures.
