About this Opportunity
The Laramie Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Wyoming is seeking a volunteer to serve as campground host June 1 through September 15. The host would be provided with a site at the North Fork Campground on the beautiful Snowy Range of the Medicine Bow National Forest near Laramie, Wyoming. It is very spacious campground that sits right next to North Fork of the Little Laramie River & also has its own trail that you can take and explore, North Fork Trail # 390. The host site is suitable for the host's own trailer or recreation vehicle (RV). There is no internet service or cell service, though a radio is provided for emergency use. North Fork Campground has 65 sites including the host site. It is a primitive campground. It does stay open later than the higher elevation campgrounds.
Duties of the Host are to greet campers, provide information and assistance if needed, and clean campsites when a camper leaves (pick up litter, clean fire rings and picnic tables, etc.). Host will also keep vault toilets clean. The Host should have good people skills and be responsible and neat in appearance. The Host must be physically able to perform such tasks as performing minor maintenance, inspecting the campground, keeping simple maintenance records, monitoring area use, and occasionally filling out forms.
Host will represent the Forest Service in public contacts, providing information and directions. Any vandalism or other problems should be reported to Forest Service personnel. All necessary tools, supplies, and safety equipment will be provided by the Forest Service, along with appropriate training. The host should be in the campground and available to the public 4 days out of each week, plus holidays, per their volunteer agreement. Days typically needing coverage are Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Duty hours are 8 am to 5 pm, but Hosts may be called upon 24 hours a day if needed.
Volunteer campground hosts will receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses of $60/week for 24 hours. Working past the 24 hour threshhold is allowed, but reimbursement is only available for the first 24 hours of every week.
